Verve was thrilled to take part in Envision Greater Fond du Lac’s Career Connections Academy event on Tuesday, January 9. We presented a financial literacy lesson—“Adulting in the Financial World”—to more than 100 seventh- and eighth-graders. We had a blast interacting with vibrant, eager-to-learn students, and they walked away with some real-world skills that will help them on the path to financial success.

Financial literacy made fun, easy—and edible.

Our lesson covered financial decision-making and budgeting and expenses. We combined our discussion with an interactive noodle game designed by the University of Kentucky. Each student received 24 noodles representing a monthly income and a sheet with a list of categories such as housing, food, childcare, and so on. Each category had a different cost associated with it, and students used their noodles to choose which expenses would fit in their lifestyle.

We know that financial literacy is one of the building blocks of a strong community, and helping educate our youth on key financial topics is right in line with our guiding 7 Cooperative Principles.
