Two Verve members have reported a phone scam in which someone impersonates Verve’s Fraud Team.
In both cases, the scam followed a similar pattern:
- A scammer calls a Verve member.
- The member checks their phone and sees a caller ID that says Verve, a Credit Union or (800) 448‑9228.
- The member answers the call.
This is the information the scammer is trying to extract:

The scammer says something like:
“Hi, I’m [name], calling on behalf of Verve’s Fraud Team. We noticed fraudulent charges on your account and want to help you reverse them and protect your information. Can you please verify your username and password?”

Once a member shares their login credentials, the scammer attempts to access the account and triggers a verification step.
This is the information the scammer is trying to extract:

The caller then says:
“I’m going to send you a code to verify your account. Please read it back to me.”

The scammer sends the code. The member reads it aloud. And that’s all it takes. The scammer now has full access to the member’s account.
What you can do:
Know the warning signs:
- Verve will never call you outside of normal business hours. In these cases, calls came on a Sunday and after 7:00 p.m. on a weeknight.
- Verve will never ask for your login credentials—in person, by phone, or by text.
- Verve will never ask for your authenticator or verification code.
If you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be from Verve or any other financial that raises any hesitation or concern, hang up and call Verve directly using a trusted phone number.
