The results are in, folks!
Walleye Weekend, as much as it is a lure-casting, cheese curd-squeaking, live music-bumping festival, Walleye Weekend is also Fond du Lac’s largest fundraising event for area non-profits. With giving back to community as one of our top priorities, Verve is proud to be a long-time supporter of this event, and we show our thanks to area nonprofits each year with our Grand GiveBack contest.
For the contest, we called on local organizations to share what Walleye Weekend means to them, and a committee of leaders from Verve and the community picked the top ten entrants, which you heard about on K107. The nine runners-up will receive $100 from the Fond du Lac Area Foundation. The winner will get $1,000 from Verve (talk about a Grand GiveBack) to support its community-based efforts.
And, the main character of this year’s story is… drum roll please… Fond du Lac Morning Kiwanis! Morning Kiwanis is a charter of Kiwanis International, and you might recognize them as the servers of those beloved brats and cheese curds at Walleye Weekend every year. Check out the announcement video here.
One hundred percent of the group’s profits at Walleye Weekend goes to supporting youth education, and they recently funded the installation of a “story walk” in Lakeside park. Combining reading, family time and a good dose of fresh air, the “story walk” features the pages of a children’s book in a series of trailside displays, which families can enjoy during a walk in the park. We’re proud to support the work of Morning Kiwanis, making for one happy ending to this year’s Grand GiveBack.
